Configuring and Troubleshooting Scale Integration
WMS+ integrates with digital scales to streamline weight capture during warehouse operations. After an administrator completes scale configuration, users can pull weight directly from a connected scale into the active WMS+ field to reduce manual input and improve accuracy.
Admins configure scale integration in the WMS+ Admin Panel. Responsibilities include assigning scales, defining connection parameters and resolving common issues. The sections below provide guidance on setup, testing and troubleshooting.
Scale Assignment & Setup
Only administrators configure and maintain scales under Admin Panel → Common Configuration → Hardware Configuration → Scales Determination.
Each scale entry defines:
Device IP Address and Port. Required for communication over TCP/IP.
Request Line. The command WMS+ sends to the scale to retrieve weight.
Scan Line. The expected pattern WMS+ uses to extract the weight from the scale’s response.
Response Timeout and Retry Settings. Define how WMS+ handles delays or connection failures.
Mock Value Mode. Allows test simulations without requiring a physical scale.
Scale Selection and Activation
When WMS+ captures a weight, the reading is taken from the scale that is currently set as active. Users must activate the correct scale before starting an operation.
Scales can be activated in two ways:
Manual selection: From the WMS+ side menu, select a scale from the drop-down list of configured scales.
Barcode scanning: Scan a barcode that contains the special string
^SS^<scale_code>. The scale code matches the configured code for the scale in the WMS+ Admin Panel.
Each weight entry is tied to the active scale, ensuring that recorded weights are accurate and preventing discrepancies.
Scale Use During Warehouse Operations
Once a scale is active, users can capture weights during warehouse tasks:
Read from Scales button: Click the scales icon to fetch the weight from the active scale.
Manual entry: Users may override or adjust the weight field if required.
Key Process Parameter: Split Exact Matching Entries
Located in Admin Panel → Common Configuration → Process Settings → Receiving (or other process).
This setting controls how WMS+ records weight entries:
Enabled. Each weight reading creates a new line, even for the same item and batch. Use this when weights differ by unit or when label printing is triggered per package.
Disabled. Identical item and batch entries are grouped together on a single line, with a combined quantity.
Admin Tips
Enable Mock Value Mode to validate the setup before deploying it live.
Confirm the Request Line and Scan Line are correctly matched to the scale’s output format.
Select the test scale by scanning its barcode or choosing it from the WMS+ side menu.
Train users to always confirm a scale is selected before weighing items.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Issue | Resolution |
|---|---|
On-screen scale icon does nothing | Confirm the scale is selected by the user and matches the configuration in Scales Determination |
Barcode scan returns no weight | Ensure the scanned barcode contains the correct |
Weight shown is zero or incorrect | Check that the Request Line and Scan Line match the scale’s actual output format |
Each weight needs a separate entry line | Enable Split Exact Matching Entries in Process Settings |
Field stays blank after scan | Make sure the user has actively selected a scale. WMS+ does not auto-select scales on login. |
