Receiving and Inventory Intake Overview
Receiving and inventory intake in WMS+ covers all workflows where goods enter the warehouse: from suppliers, customers, production, or manual adjustments. This section brings these workflows together and explains the shared features that support accuracy, traceability and efficiency for each intake type.
Pallet Handling in WMS+
If pallet handling is active, WMS+ creates a pallet with a unique SSCC when the first item is received. Additional items are added to that pallet unless a new pallet is started.
Use ☰ menu and select Pallets to view or create pallets. A label prints when the trip is completed. Batch-managed items prompt for required fields before printing.
Note on Batch-Managed Items
If an item is batch-managed, WMS+ will prompt you to enter or scan batch details such as lot number, expiration date or manufacturing date before confirming quantities. For non-batch items, you can enter or scan quantities directly without opening a batch entry screen.
What Counts as Receiving in WMS+
Purchase Order Receipts: Goods received against SAP Business One purchase orders.
Customer Returns: Stock sent back from stores, distributors or end users.
Production Receipts: Finished goods entering inventory from manufacturing.
Inventory Adjustments IN: Manual additions for unplanned stock changes.
Receiving Workflow Overview
The diagram below outlines a typical vendor receiving workflow—from SAP document creation through WMS+ scanning, traceability capture and final inventory update.
Other intake types (e.g. production, adjustments, returns) follow similar principles, but with variations in steps and document flow.
Key Features Across All Receiving Workflows
GS1 Barcode Support: Real-time parsing of barcodes to auto-fill item codes, quantities, batch details and expiration dates.
Batch and Serial Tracking: Capture of lot numbers, expiration dates and user-defined attributes for full traceability.
Pallet Handling: When enabled, WMS+ automatically creates a license plate (SSCC) for each new pallet and prints pallet labels at completion.
Bin Location Suggestions: Last-location memory and default bin rules to speed up putaway decisions.
Over-Receipt and Multi-Warehouse Support: Ability to receive more than ordered (if permitted) and direct stock to alternate warehouses.
