      The Concept of Trips

      [ 1 Beginning a Trip ] [ 2 Common Scenarios ] [ 3 Summary ]

In WMS+, trips are fundamental to moving, receiving or issuing inventory. A trip is a single movement, such as unloading a pallet, issuing a quantity to production or transferring inventory between bins. Rather than requiring users to process an entire document in one action, WMS+ allows these movements to occur in controlled stages.

Using trips in stages is useful when goods are palletized, handled by forklift or split across multiple storage locations. For example, when receiving items from a delivery vehicle, a warehouse operative may offload items one pallet at a time. With trips, each pallet can be recorded, confirmed and placed directly into a bin location or staging area. WMS+ tracks each trip individually, providing flexibility and real time inventory accuracy throughout the operation.

A document is only considered complete when all quantities across all lines have been fully received, issued or moved and all trips are confirmed.

      Beginning a Trip

A purchase order has been selected from the List of Documents.

Warehouse staff use standard wheeled carts to move goods from the receiving dock to the staging area. Each cart can hold a mix of up to ten items, such as cartons of brioche rolls or boxed kitchen blenders, before it must be returned for another trip.

WMS+ tracks progress against the full order and automatically prepares the next trip. When the barcode is scanned, WMS+ populates the item, quantity, lot and batch information. The user can enter notes in the free text field, such as “Max Cart Capacity = 10 items,” to help plan how many trips are required.

The user confirms 10 items using the - or + buttons, the onscreen keyboard or by scanning into the Qty field.

      Destination Selection

After confirming the quantity, WMS+ displays the Destination screen. The user can offload the pallet to the staging area or scan or select a final bin location.

The user clicks COMPLETE to finalize the trip. A confirmation prompt appears, and the user clicks OK.

WMS+ saves the trip and returns to the Receiving menu screen. The user must reselect the same purchase order to continue receiving.

Upon re-entering the document, WMS+ shows:

      Next Trip

      • Ordered: 10 Brioche Rolls (6-pack), 10 High-Speed Commercial Blenders.

      • Received: 5 Brioche Rolls (6-pack), 5 High-Speed Commercial Blenders.

The process is repeated for the next cartload. The user enters the remaining 5 Brioche Rolls and 5 Blenders, confirms any required batch details, selects a bin and completes the trip.

At this point, the full quantity for each item has been received.

      Reviewing Completed Trips

The user opens the menu to view completed trips and enables the Show Completed toggle. Enabling the toggle displays all recorded trips, including quantities and bins.

Before a trip is finalized, you can:

      • Select a row to adjust the quantity using the minus or plus buttons, the onscreen keyboard or by scanning into the Qty field.

      • Review the trip contents and make necessary corrections.

Trips cannot be deleted in the current UI. If a trip needs to be cancelled, the process must be restarted because WMS+ does not support rollbacks after completion.

      Final Summary and Posting

Once all receiving is complete, WMS+ displays the final summary screen showing:

      • Document number.

      • Customer account.

      • Posting date.

      • Received quantities.

      • A Crystal layout (e.g., GOODS RECEIPT PO @ RESULTS | PDN20004) may be printed if configured.

The user clicks DONE to save the document to SAP Business One and return to the main menu.

      Common Scenarios

      • Using multiple carts to receive large deliveries.

      • Splitting trips when items are stored across different bin locations.

      • Recording palletized goods one load at a time.

      Summary

Trips in WMS+ represent individual movements, such as unloading a pallet or transferring items between bins. They allow large documents to be processed in stages, improving accuracy and flexibility. Each trip is recorded and confirmed separately, and the document posts only when all trips are complete.
