Scanning Quantity Defaults and GS1 Behavior

      [ 1 Default Quantity Behavior ]

WMS+ applies quantities during scanning based on settings defined in WMS+ Admin Panel → Process Settings and the structure of GS1 barcodes. The section below explains how quantity is determined when users scan items in Receiving, Inventory Adjustments and Production workflows.

      Default Quantity Behavior

When a user scans a barcode, WMS+ determines the quantity based on a combination of factors:

      • GS1-encoded quantity: If the barcode contains a known GS1 Application Identifier (AI) for quantity (AI 30 for discrete units such as cases or individual items, AI 310X for net weight in kilograms, or AI 320X for net weight in pounds; X indicates the number of decimal places in the weight amount), WMS+ automatically extracts and applies the embedded quantity unless the Ignore GS1 Quantity/Weight toggle is enabled in WMS+ Admin Panel → Process Settings.

      • Catchweight items: For catchweight products, both AI 30 and AI 31/32 may be present. WMS+ uses AI 30 for the number of units and AI 31/32 for total weight.

      • Retail Quantity fallback: If the quantity is not embedded in the barcode or the GS1 quantity parsing is ignored, WMS+ checks the item's Retail Quantity field in SAP Business One. If a value is defined there, that number will be used as the default.

      • Manual entry: If no quantity can be determined automatically, WMS+ prompts the user to enter it manually. For batch-managed items, the quantity prompt appears in a dedicated Batch screen. For non-batch-managed items, it appears in a dedicated Item UI.

      [ 1 Overriding Quantities ] [ 2 Summary ]

      Overriding Quantities

Quantity behavior depends on barcode structure, system configuration and item master data. Users can always click into the item row to override or manually adjust the quantity if needed.

      Summary

WMS+ determines quantity during scanning by checking GS1-encoded values, catchweight data or the Retail Quantity defined in SAP Business One. If no value is available, the user is prompted to enter it manually. Quantities can always be reviewed and overridden, ensuring accurate results regardless of barcode structure or system settings.
